Issue a duplicate or cancel a receipt compliantly

3 min read

Reprinting an invoice or fixing a mistake must be done the right way to stay MEV-WEB compliant. From the InnoBooks POS app, you can reprint a receipt as a Duplicata or a Reproduction, and cancel a receipt with a reason — rather than deleting it. This guide walks through each action.

A receipt's detail and its actions: Print, Duplicata, Reproduction, Send, Cancel, Refund.

What you’ll need

  • The POS add-on active and MEV-WEB configured for the company.
  • The InnoBooks POS app, on the receipts screen.
  • The receipt concerned, already produced (and transmitted).

Steps

  1. Open the receipt and its actions

In the POS app, open the receipts screen and select the receipt you want. The action grid offers, among others, Print, Duplicata, Reproduction, Send and, for an active sale, Cancel and Refund.

  2. Reprint as duplicata or reproduction

Print reprints the original. For a copy identified as such, choose Duplicata; for a reproduction of the document, choose Reproduction. In both cases the reprint is produced from the app with the right marking — you’re not recreating an original. A message confirms it was sent to print.

  3. Cancel a receipt with a reason

For an active sale, tap Cancel. The Cancel receipt dialog opens with the warning This action cannot be undone (MEV-WEB compliance). Please provide a reason. Enter the Reason — it’s mandatory — then tap Confirm cancel.

  4. Confirm and check the status

After confirmation, a message shows Receipt canceled successfully and the receipt moves to the Canceled status. The cancellation is transmitted to Revenu Québec and recorded in the SEV Journal.

  5. Refund rather than cancel (when needed)

To give money back on part of the order, use Refund instead: the Refund receipt dialog lets you issue a credit note by amount or by item, with a Reason. Keep cancellation for fully voiding the receipt.

Tips & edge cases

  • Original, duplicata, reproduction: the original is the first print; Duplicata and Reproduction are reprints identified as such, produced from the app.
  • Reason is mandatory: cancellation requires a Reason; with no text, the confirm button does nothing.
  • Don’t delete: the Delete action warns “this action cannot be undone. Prefer cancelation for MEV-WEB compliance.” Use cancellation or refund instead.
  • Cancel / Refund only on active sales: both actions appear only for a receipt that is still an active sale.
  • Training: a receipt produced in training mode shows the *** TRAINING DOCUMENT *** notice and must not be given to the customer.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a duplicata and a reproduction?

Both are reprints of an already-produced receipt, identified as such (the original stays the first print). InnoBooks offers “Duplicata” and “Reproduction” as two distinct reprint types; for the precise meaning expected by Revenu Québec, see revenuquebec.ca.

How do I cancel a receipt correctly?

On an active sale, tap “Cancel”, enter a reason (mandatory) and confirm with “Confirm cancel”. The action cannot be undone, is transmitted to Revenu Québec and recorded in the SEV Journal.

Should I delete a wrong receipt?

No. Deletion cannot be undone, and the app explicitly recommends preferring cancellation for MEV-WEB compliance. To refund part of it, use “Refund” (credit note) instead.
