How your client views and pays their invoice online

3 min read

When you send an invoice by email or by link, your client opens it in a secure web page — no account, no install. They review every detail — line items, taxes, amount due — and download the PDF. Once they’ve paid, you record the payment in InnoBooks. Here’s how it looks from the client’s side.

What your client sees: the invoice detail, taxes, amount due and the Download button.

What you’ll need

  • An invoice created and saved in InnoBooks.
  • The client’s email address (to email it) or a link to send them.

Steps

  1. Send the invoice to the client

On the invoice detail page, click Send Email to send it to the client’s address, or Share by link to get a secure link (the Copy to Clipboard button) to send however you like.

  2. The client opens the link

The client clicks the link: a page appears with the InnoBooks logo, the word Invoice followed by the number, and the status. The page displays in French or English depending on their browser language.

  3. The client reviews the details

The invoice shows your business details, the Billed to block, the Invoice Number, the Date of Issue and the Due Date. Line items appear with their Rate, Quantity and Tax, followed by the Subtotal, taxes and the Amount Due, shown in your company’s currency (usually CAD).

  4. The client downloads the invoice

At the top right, the Download button generates the invoice PDF, which the client can keep or pass to their bookkeeping.

  5. The client pays, then you record the payment

The client pays you by the method you accept (cash, transfer or card, per your arrangement). On your side, open the invoice and record the payment received to keep the balance current — see Record a payment on an invoice.

Tips & edge cases

  • The link works without an account: the client needs nothing to create or install to view their invoice.
  • Language: add ?lang=fr or ?lang=en to the end of the link to force the language; otherwise the browser’s language is used.
  • No email address for this client? Send Email shows an error: use Share by link instead.
  • The same kind of link also shares an estimate: the page then shows Estimate instead of Invoice.
  • The public page is set to “noindex”: it isn’t listed by search engines.
