To sell with InnoBooks, the certified register is the InnoBook POS app (tablet or device). This guide covers first-time setup: sign in and choose your company, prepare your items and categories, connect the receipt printer and pair the Stripe card reader. In Québec, businesses subject to MEV-WEB (Revenu Québec) must take payments in the certified POS app; the web register is for management.
What you’ll need #
- An InnoBooks account with the POS add-on enabled and POS access for your user
- The InnoBook POS app installed on your tablet or device
- Your items created with a price and a
POS category, withShow in POSturned on - Your taxes configured in the web portal (GST 5%, QST 9.975%)
- Optional: a Wi-Fi thermal printer (receipts) and a Stripe reader (card payments)
Steps #
- Sign in and choose your company
Open the app, enter your email and password, then tap
Sign In. A 6-digit verification code is emailed to you. If your account has access to more than one company, theChoose a companydialog appears — pick the right one. Google, Apple and fingerprint sign-in (Sign in with fingerprint) are also available. - Prepare your items, prices and categories
From the top bar, open
Articles. For each product, set aPrice, choose aPOS category, and turn onShow in POS. A category is required whenever an item appears at the register:Category is required when the item is shown in the mobile app or POS.These categories become the tiles a cashier taps to find products. - Configure taxes in the web portal
Taxes (GST 5%, QST 9.975%) are managed in the web portal, not in the app. On an item, the
Taxestab lists available taxes; if empty, you’ll see:No taxes configured. Set them up in the web portal.Once created on the web side, check the taxes that apply to each item. - Connect the receipt printer
Tap the menu (☰) and choose
Receipt printer. The app scans your Wi-Fi network for ESC/POS thermal printers. Tap the one you want, or useManual entryto type the IP address and port (9100 by default), thenUse this printer. AnActivetag confirms your choice. - Pair the Stripe card reader
The Stripe reader connects automatically when the POS screen opens. The first time, allow location access — Stripe requires it to pair the reader. If access is denied, a message appears —
Location permission is required to connect the Stripe reader.— with anOpen settingsbutton to fix it. - Confirm everything is ready
Back on the POS screen, you should see your category tiles on the left and the
Ordered Itemscart on the right. Tap a category, add a product, and confirm the price,Subtotal,TaxandTotalappear. You’re ready to take payments.
Tips & edge cases #
- The menu (☰) groups the
Receipt printer,Notes,Waste / Loss,Language, theDiagnosticlog andLogout. - Don’t pick the label printer as the receipt printer: the app flags the Brother QL device with a
LABELtag in the list. - The printer choice is remembered per device and takes precedence over the address configured on the server.
- You can create and edit items right in the app (the
Articlesscreen) or in the web portal; taxes, however, are set up only in the web portal.
Frequently asked questions #
Can I take payments on the web register instead of the app? #
For a Québec business subject to MEV-WEB (Revenu Québec), sales must go through the certified POS app. The web register is for management (items, orders, reports), not for taking payments.
The Stripe reader won’t connect — what do I do? #
First check the location permission (message “Location permission is required to connect the Stripe reader.” and the “Open settings” button). Then make sure the reader is powered on and on the same network as the tablet.
Do I need a printer to sell? #
No. The receipt can be printed, but it can also be emailed or texted (SMS) to the customer from the payment-success screen. A printer is still handy for an instant paper receipt.
