Take a payment from your phone or tablet

3 min read

The InnoBook POS app turns your phone or tablet into a mobile cash register. This guide shows how to build the cart from categories, the product grid or search, apply a discount, delivery or tip, take a card, cash or Interac payment, then print or send the receipt. Québec taxes (GST 5%, QST 9.975%) are added automatically.

What you’ll need #

  • The InnoBook POS app installed with a session open for your company
  • Items that have a price, a POS category and Show in POS turned on
  • For card: a connected Stripe reader; for a paper receipt: a receipt printer (optional)

Steps #

  1. Add items to the cart

On the POS screen, tap a category tile to show its products, then tap a product to add it (each tap adds 1). The button removes one; a long-press opens the numpad to type a quantity. For a price-adjustable item, type the amount in the Set price field. The Back button returns to the category list.

  2. Search or scan a product

Use the search field (Scan a barcode or search for a product...) or the Search / Scan button to find an item by name or barcode. With a scanner, scanning the code adds the product straight to the cart. See the dedicated guide for details.

  3. Check the cart and totals

The Ordered Items panel (right on tablet, via the cart icon on phone) lists the lines. Tap the quantity pill to change it, swipe a line right or tap the trash icon to remove it, or Reset all to empty it. At the bottom, the Counter / Platform selector sets the service type, and the Tip, Delivery and Discount buttons add an amount. Check Subtotal, Tax and Total.

  4. Take card, cash or Interac

Tap the large Card button to start the payment on the Stripe reader. Cash opens Cash payment: enter the Cash amount, tap Calculate to see the Money back, then Apply Payment. Interact shows Present the terminal to the customer. with an Add tip option, then Proceed.

  5. Print or send the receipt

On success, the Payment Successful dialog shows the Receipt #. Tap Print Receipt, or under Send receipt to customer: enter an email or number and choose Email or SMS. Tap Done to return to the register — the cart is cleared for the next sale.

Tips & edge cases #

  • The More actions button groups Create Order, Left Without Paying and Cancel sale (a cancellation transmitted to Revenu Québec, cart cleared).
  • The Platform selector is for delivery sales through a digital platform; leave it on Counter for an in-store sale.
  • Tax is calculated automatically from each item’s taxes (GST 5%, QST 9.975%); a small spinner turns while it computes.
  • Swiping a cart line — or a discount/tip/delivery line — to the right removes it.
  • You don’t need a printer to sell: the receipt can be emailed or texted (SMS).
